Current favourites

Beauty & skincare favourites

Recently, we've been keeping our routines really simple to combat our problematic skin. The Liz Earle cleanse & polish is one of our greatest skincare discoveries yet, it's kind to skin and gentle ingredients really make it a pleasure to use, especially after wearing full face of makeup. It leaves our skin feeling so soft and is a great product to use before bed as the fragrance is really calming. The Nivea sensitive micellar water is a staple in our skincare routine because it's so easy and quick to use, it doesn't irritate our eyes and a little goes a long way. The Good things - Five minute facial mask in avocado and Goji Berry is our new discovery this month. This clay mask smells amazing, the consistency is not too thick and it leaves our skin looking brighter, what's not to love?

As far as beauty products go, the Urban Decay all nighter foundation paired with collection's lasting perfection concealer have been a firm favourites for long wearing results and a full coverage. These two products are a match made in heaven, as long as you can find a collection concealer in the shade that you need (It is almost always sold out.) Rimmel's Brow this way tinted eyebrow gel has been a staple in our makeup bags and works really well with benefit's gimme brow, which has a slightly smaller more precise wand. As always L'oreal's million excess mascara remains a firm favourite as it leaves you with long separated lashes with heaps of volume, in all honesty we'd be lost without this product! L'oreal's lipstick range is one of our favourites, not only is the packaging beautiful, the nude lipstick by Eva Longoria is the perfect day to night shade. Our favourite fragrance at the moment is oriental by Zara. The scent has notes of caramel and vanilla which makes it sweet while still having a woody and sophisticated feel to it.

Film favourites

    1.                                                   2.                                               3.

1. Hidden Figures was eye opening, sometimes shocking but mostly just incredibly uplifting. The biographical drama told the stories of 3 women who not only worked for NASA during John Glenn's space flight back in 1962, they also challenged perceptions, made their voices heard and most importantly used their intelligence to reach their goals. Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monae played such strong and feisty women, it was truly inspirational.

2. Hacksaw Ridge told the unbelievable true story of a conscientious objector and soldier who saved 75 men during World War two. Desmond Doss' story is so incredible because he experienced so much backlash for not wanting to hold a gun or kill any man on the battlefield yet he was able to evacuate the majority of men on enemy lines all while repeating the harrowing words "Lord please, help me get one more." Although Hacksaw Ridge is filled with action packed, bloody scenes on the battlefield the film itself is so emotional and humbling to watch.

3. Lion tells the true story of a young boy named Saroo who gets lost on a train, separated from his mother and siblings, and is eventually adopted by a kind Australian couple. Years later Saroo decides he needs to go home and find his real family and the story of rediscovery begins. Dev Patel and little Sunny Pawar are both superb actors and overall Lion was heartfelt and an emotional roller coaster.

Random favourites

    1.                                                  2.                                                    3.

1. At the beginning of February we fulfilled our younger selves dream of going to see Busted in concert on their Night Driver tour. We were of the generation who grew up obsessed with Charlie, his eyebrows (and of course Matt and James too) so when they broke up way back in 2005, before we had the chance to go see them live, we were truly gutted. We had the best time ever singing along to all the classics from Air Hostess to the absolute tunes that are 3am and Who's David. It was also a chance for us to reunite and spend some quality sister time, which is always a favourite.

2. A fashion favourite this month has to be these candy floss pink trainers from H&M. Not only do they brighten up a dull winter's day outfit now, we can defiantly see these transitioning seamlessly into spring. February has been all about chunky jumpers and layers so we're more than excited to start dressing for spring. After browsing Pinterest for inspiration we're thinking Gingham, Yellow and probably some florals (visualise Miranda Priestly's "Floral's for spring... groundbreaking.")

3. Lastly we are completely and unashamedly obsessed with interior design this month. Home sense has absolutely been the go-to place for gathering ideas and inspiration and to this day we still can't stop thinking about the suede mustard arm chair pictured above.

Thanks for reading, Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Nordic adventures - Bergen in winter

“Walking in a Winterwonderland...”

...Bing Crosby's festive winter tune came to mind when imagining Bergen, Norway in December. Hours upon hours of Pinterest stalking and day dreaming were undertaken before this unforgettable nordic adventure, unfortunately (unlike the Pinterest pictures) there was no snow in the city.

Fortunately what Bergen lacked in blankets of snow, it made up for in its quirky and festive personality. Basically, I absolutely fell in love at first sight with this city! Ever wondered what there is to do and see in Bergen, keep reading this post from my Christmas getaway to find out more!

The main attractions:
  • Taking the Fløibanen funicular up to Mount Fløyen for breathtaking views
  • A fjord cruise from Bergen to Mostraumen which transports you to another world
  • A (quick and smelly) visit to the Bergen Fish Market to feel like a local just casually doing their grocery shop for the week, does anyone else do this?
  • An educational trip to the city’s museums to fill that cultural need
  • Last but definitely not least...spending hours strolling through the quaint streets of Bryggen.

A pure highlight of the trip was experiencing and fawning over how much effort all the different shops put into their festive displays (a special shoutout to Illums Bolighus – who had a stunning Nordic Christmas fairytale dining scene)... Also, everywhere you’d turn there would be paper stars hanging from the ceiling in a variety of colours and sizes, the attention to detail was so lovely I genuinely felt my insides warm.

Tips & recommendations:

  • TAKE PLENTY OF NORWEGIAN “KRONE”! (Only downfall... is that it is preeeetty pricey there. e.g, you’re looking at an average of 85-95 NOK Kr (£8-£9.50) for a PINT of local beer “Hansa” – however it is a good pint, so go for it! You just might think twice about having a "proper session")
  • Visit BIT in the Galleriet shopping centre for a deeeeelicious selection of cakes and sweet treats *insert intense drooling in public*
  • Dine at the Pingvinen Bar & Restaurant for traditional Norwegian food – the meetballs are everything you’d hope for... and more!
  • Visit the 3 floor Christmas shop Julehuset – for all the Christmassy feels!
  • Heads up - WRAP UP FOR A FJORD BOAT TOUR - it is Freeeeezing cold!
  • Just take your time strolling the streets and absorb all the wonderful Bergen’ness of this city – it truly is LUSH!

Current Favourites

At last Autumn is here! In a matter of a week we've dusted off our ankle boots, lit autumnal candles and donned chunky scarves. Finally our favourite time of year has arrived and we can't wait to extend our autumn/winter wardrobes.

In today's post we are gushing about Emily Blunt's November cover for Vogue. Not only does one of our favourite actresses look absolutely beautiful in the magazine, the colour scheme is warm and epitomises everything autumnal.

Film Favourites

After signing up to cineworld unlimited we have been visiting the cinema sometimes twice a week to see the latest films. Recently we have really loved The Magnificent 7 (a remake of the western classic) starring Chris Pratt and Denzel Washington, Bridget Jones' baby (we dare you not to laugh, it was bloody brilliant) and Girl on the train (based on the best selling novel) starring the terrifyingly brilliant Emily Blunt.

Beauty Favourites

If truth be told we are in serious need of trip to boots and a makeup bag update. Despite this, we have been really loving the nude colour riche lipstick's by L'oreal in Eva and JLo's shades. The formula of these lipsticks are incredibly comfortable to wear and are surprisingly long lasting considering the price point. Eva's nude is a little peachier while JLo's is a very light pinky nude, both look great with either minimal, natural makeup or paired with a smokey eye for the evening.

Fashion Favourites

I'm sure we're not alone when we explain how comfortable these or any Nike trainers are to wear. Not only do they feel like you are walking on a cloud but they also look great with pretty much anything from day to day. As far as casual goes we have also been loving this Kaki bomber jacket from Zara which we bought over the summer and has transitioned perfectly into Autumn.

We decided to dip our toes into the Victoriana trend with this ruffled white blouse from New Look. The subtle detailing makes it an easy to wear piece which can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. We've also been loving these acne inspired pointed black ankle boots which we picked up in the H&M sale. We're currently on the look out for a pair of either printed or textured boots however it's always essential to have a black pair for the autumn months as they're so versatile. The decorated cross body bag was bought last christmas from Zara but it continues to be a fashion favourite all year round.

Seasonal Favourites

Autumn/Winter is the ideal season to stock up on candles and diffusers to accentuate the feeling of being warm and toasty on a chilly day inside. We are on a mission to hit the yankee candle store at cheshire oaks shortly as we are craving Red apple wreath for it's cinnamon-y goodness however in the mean time we have been pleasantly surprised by Primark's Clementine and Honey candle which is packaged in a jar and is said to burn for 40 hours which is great news as it smells so seasonal and delicious. Secondly, we have absolutely been loving Calvin Klein's Euphoria perfume which has been  a signature scent of ours for about seven years now and is still a firm favourite. The perfume is especially nice in winter as it has a more mature scent as opposed to a fruity, youthful scent like our summer favourite Marc Jacobs Honey.

Hope you enjoyed reading about our current favourites, we'll be back soon with another post but in the meantime keep in touch with us through our social media

Glasses Haul - Eye Buy Direct

I must admit we have always been sceptical about ordering prescription glasses online. There's a lack of communication and care associated with turning to an online retailer, instead of visiting your local opticians, however we are so glad to have stumbled across Eyebuydirect. This post is not in any way sponsored but we were so happy with our new eyewear we had to share our latest glasses haul experience on the blog.

Not only does the website offer a wide variety of prescription glasses in various shapes, material, colour and features, the frames are also set at affordable price points which rival that of the high street opticians. After signing up to the website we received a 2 for 1 offer on all glasses and free delivery which was just too good to turn down.

"Wearing the same glasses every day is like wearing the same shoes every day"

Eyebuydirect has a very useful try on feature which allows you to upload a selfie and digitally try on the various styles of eyewear. This tool was incredibly useful as we quickly learnt what does and doesn't suit us which ultimately allowed us to feel confident about proceeding to the checkout.

We have fallen head over heels for the monochrome/tortoiseshell glasses. These large, round specs make a statement without being too garish and pretty much go with everything. Our favourite way to style the eyewear is formally with a crisp white shirt, trousers and a slick of red lipstick and casually with a simple pink sweater and jeans combo. It's great to find a pair of glasses which add a pop of interest to any outfit.

If like us you are tired of thick black frames and are looking for a classic alternative then a pair of dark red specs could be for you too. The almost burgundy shade flatters the face as its not harsh against the rest of your features and it also adds a subtle pop of colour which perks up any monochrome outfit. Our favourite way to wear these glasses is with a basic roll neck and statement skirt which keeps things fun, and a little dare we say, Jessica Day "Quirky".

Thank you so much for reading, we hope this post has changed the way you SEE... prescription glasses shopping! Terrible joke... just terrible...

No carbs before Marbs?!

Our trip to Barcelona was cancelled due to french air strikes over the easter holidays so we decided to book a relaxing 5 day break to the costa del sol for some much needed sol and chill time - not to be confused with the relentless, tinder fuelled phrase of our generation - Netflix and chill. After a frantic final year at university filled with deadline stresses and panics about the future we were more than ready to pack up our bags with books that claimed to be “perfect for by the pool”, flimsy flip flops and the ever important SPF and head off to Spain.

Despite the excitement, we were admittedly plagued with an arguably irrational yet common fear of the bikini’s that we would also have to buy and wear in front of other human beings in an ever so near two months time. To some of you lovely readers this may be a minor, insignificant detail involved in the holiday, and if so that's great we applaud your positive attitude and self esteem! To us however, the idea of the bikini formed panic and stress almost as equal to that of completing an assignment or a pitch presentation at University.

- Nope, Nah, No, Not one tiny bit.

In the two months that followed up to the highly anticipated holiday, we found ourselves stumbling in and out of this bid to try and become what all the magazines and Instagram #bodyinspo posts dictate as “bikini ready”. We wrestled back and forth with what we really wanted to achieve and therefore became increasingly distracted from our supposedly healthy diets (coco pops, bacon and pizza are always to blame). We ventured in and out of fads, from slim fast shakes which left us practically hallucinating burgers and ice cream at around 4pm, to our least favourite fad “No carbz, before marbz”. Any TOWIE fans from back in the Mark and Lauren days will remember this allegedly motivating phrase created during the female cast’s bid to look “Reem” in Marbella. Now, we are not stupid girls, (throwback to Pink’s 2009 cracker of a tune) we know that bread has a bad rep in the health and fitness world, it’s pretty much been branded as the devil! We know we should just suck it up and learn to love Quinoa, and pearl barley and all things bland but the point is we just don’t want to... at least not all of the time.

The closer we were getting to our time abroad we began to realise that we were not going to see any more substantial physical changes and decided to admit defeat to the “bikini ready” expectations which were enabling us to feel so god damn shitty. There is no hiding it, we do not fall into the stereotypical washboard abs and tiny bubble butt category however we know that we are not on the opposite end of the spectrum which promotes obesity and an unhealthy lifestyle either. We’re just sitting somewhere in-between, floating along the blurred lines of a healthy body image and unrealistic expectations.

The trick to coping with all this pressure for perfection is to realise that quite honestly no one else gives two turtle shits about how you look in a bikini except you! If you can accept that extra roll when you sit up on the sun lounger, that extra water spilled when you cannon ball into the pool and that extra suncream needed to protect that fine ass, then who’s to say you’re not bikini ready?

We really wanted to include a positive, carefree image of us in our swimwear however the focus setting on the camera decided that the stone that it was leaning against was far more photogenic... so who are we to judge?!

And with that deep and meaningful rhetorical question out in the open, we shall leave you with 3 non - bikini related life lessons we suggest you strongly consider whilst on your holiday/vacation this summer!

1. Never drink the champagne after a day of tequila sunrise cocktails even if you did beat "Jean's Devils" at the hotel bingo - you will spend the entire next day under an umbrella in foetal position cradling your throbbing headache.

2. Reflective sunglasses are great for disguising a wondering eye whilst people watching at the beach because you never get caught (admit it, we all do it).

3. Lastly, we beg you readers, please do not be that person who wakes up at the crack of dawn and stumbles down to the pool area half asleep to reserve a row of sun beds before sneaking back to bed until after lunch. We don't reserve tables at restaurants with towels so why should it work as a form of reservation on holiday, None of that thank you!

Women we want to be more like in 2016

This week's post is a small collection of our favourite leading ladies of 2015, a short summary of our Girl Crush list to celebrate the women we admire.

(All images: Pinterest)

She was THE woman of 2015. Rib tickling-ly Hilarious. Let's face it, we can’ t get enough of her Inside Amy Schumer show. It is so addictive as it's outrageously funny, Amy manages to get away with saying pretty much anything and we love her for speaking her mind and for inspiring us with her body confidence.

(All images: Pinterest)

How can we not adore J-Law?! 2015 saw her friendship with fellow girl crush Amy Schumer blossom and we're not gonna lie we'd love to be part of their girl gang. Jennifer's 'quirky' personality really shines through in interviews (specifically with Jimmy Fallon). The 'come dance with videos gags keep us going during never ending assignment deadlines.

(All images: Pinterest)

We just can't forget her performance in Wimbledon 2015 last summer. She is the definition of strength *illustrated in that Pirelli calendar shoot*. We would love to take a leaf out of her book and get lean this year, might even take up tennis this summer, however we'll be leaving the splits to her!

(All images: Pinterest)

The end of 2015 belonged to Miss Ridley. The up and coming actress was flawless as Rey in Star Wars: the force awakens  and based on her red carpet style we predict she’ll be on the FROW everywhere this year. Daisy is a force to be reckoned with... if you pardon the pun.

(All images: Pinterest)

Mindy has always been one of the women on top of our list, especially following an amazingly funny ‘The Mindy Project’ season in 2015. She oozes sassy / strong / independent woman vibes. And we adore her bold, confident style. Mindy's insta account brightens up our daily feed and we can not wait to start reading her book 'Why not me?'.

(All images: Pinterest)

What can we say, ASOS stylist Megan exudes cool, a coolness we are forever day dreaming about. Her wardrobe is to die for. She is the ultimate denim queen. Wardrobe goals. Enough said.

(All images: Pinterest)

Massive girl crush for us, we absolutely love her as Gloria's character in Modern Family. As one of us studies Spanish at university, she is the perfect role model for español flair! We spent way too much of our time stalking her Instagram during THAT wedding… sassy seniorita goals.
