No carbs before Marbs?!

Our trip to Barcelona was cancelled due to french air strikes over the easter holidays so we decided to book a relaxing 5 day break to the costa del sol for some much needed sol and chill time - not to be confused with the relentless, tinder fuelled phrase of our generation - Netflix and chill. After a frantic final year at university filled with deadline stresses and panics about the future we were more than ready to pack up our bags with books that claimed to be “perfect for by the pool”, flimsy flip flops and the ever important SPF and head off to Spain.

Despite the excitement, we were admittedly plagued with an arguably irrational yet common fear of the bikini’s that we would also have to buy and wear in front of other human beings in an ever so near two months time. To some of you lovely readers this may be a minor, insignificant detail involved in the holiday, and if so that's great we applaud your positive attitude and self esteem! To us however, the idea of the bikini formed panic and stress almost as equal to that of completing an assignment or a pitch presentation at University.

- Nope, Nah, No, Not one tiny bit.

In the two months that followed up to the highly anticipated holiday, we found ourselves stumbling in and out of this bid to try and become what all the magazines and Instagram #bodyinspo posts dictate as “bikini ready”. We wrestled back and forth with what we really wanted to achieve and therefore became increasingly distracted from our supposedly healthy diets (coco pops, bacon and pizza are always to blame). We ventured in and out of fads, from slim fast shakes which left us practically hallucinating burgers and ice cream at around 4pm, to our least favourite fad “No carbz, before marbz”. Any TOWIE fans from back in the Mark and Lauren days will remember this allegedly motivating phrase created during the female cast’s bid to look “Reem” in Marbella. Now, we are not stupid girls, (throwback to Pink’s 2009 cracker of a tune) we know that bread has a bad rep in the health and fitness world, it’s pretty much been branded as the devil! We know we should just suck it up and learn to love Quinoa, and pearl barley and all things bland but the point is we just don’t want to... at least not all of the time.

The closer we were getting to our time abroad we began to realise that we were not going to see any more substantial physical changes and decided to admit defeat to the “bikini ready” expectations which were enabling us to feel so god damn shitty. There is no hiding it, we do not fall into the stereotypical washboard abs and tiny bubble butt category however we know that we are not on the opposite end of the spectrum which promotes obesity and an unhealthy lifestyle either. We’re just sitting somewhere in-between, floating along the blurred lines of a healthy body image and unrealistic expectations.

The trick to coping with all this pressure for perfection is to realise that quite honestly no one else gives two turtle shits about how you look in a bikini except you! If you can accept that extra roll when you sit up on the sun lounger, that extra water spilled when you cannon ball into the pool and that extra suncream needed to protect that fine ass, then who’s to say you’re not bikini ready?

We really wanted to include a positive, carefree image of us in our swimwear however the focus setting on the camera decided that the stone that it was leaning against was far more photogenic... so who are we to judge?!

And with that deep and meaningful rhetorical question out in the open, we shall leave you with 3 non - bikini related life lessons we suggest you strongly consider whilst on your holiday/vacation this summer!

1. Never drink the champagne after a day of tequila sunrise cocktails even if you did beat "Jean's Devils" at the hotel bingo - you will spend the entire next day under an umbrella in foetal position cradling your throbbing headache.

2. Reflective sunglasses are great for disguising a wondering eye whilst people watching at the beach because you never get caught (admit it, we all do it).

3. Lastly, we beg you readers, please do not be that person who wakes up at the crack of dawn and stumbles down to the pool area half asleep to reserve a row of sun beds before sneaking back to bed until after lunch. We don't reserve tables at restaurants with towels so why should it work as a form of reservation on holiday, None of that thank you!

Women we want to be more like in 2016

This week's post is a small collection of our favourite leading ladies of 2015, a short summary of our Girl Crush list to celebrate the women we admire.

(All images: Pinterest)

She was THE woman of 2015. Rib tickling-ly Hilarious. Let's face it, we can’ t get enough of her Inside Amy Schumer show. It is so addictive as it's outrageously funny, Amy manages to get away with saying pretty much anything and we love her for speaking her mind and for inspiring us with her body confidence.

(All images: Pinterest)

How can we not adore J-Law?! 2015 saw her friendship with fellow girl crush Amy Schumer blossom and we're not gonna lie we'd love to be part of their girl gang. Jennifer's 'quirky' personality really shines through in interviews (specifically with Jimmy Fallon). The 'come dance with videos gags keep us going during never ending assignment deadlines.

(All images: Pinterest)

We just can't forget her performance in Wimbledon 2015 last summer. She is the definition of strength *illustrated in that Pirelli calendar shoot*. We would love to take a leaf out of her book and get lean this year, might even take up tennis this summer, however we'll be leaving the splits to her!

The end of 2015 belonged to Miss Ridley. The up and coming actress was flawless as Rey in Star Wars: the force awakens  and based on her red carpet style we predict she’ll be on the FROW everywhere this year. Daisy is a force to be reckoned with... if you pardon the pun.

Mindy has always been one of the women on top of our list, especially following an amazingly funny ‘The Mindy Project’ season in 2015. She oozes sassy / strong / independent woman vibes. And we adore her bold, confident style. Mindy's insta account brightens up our daily feed and we can not wait to start reading her book 'Why not me?'.

What can we say, ASOS stylist Megan exudes cool, a coolness we are forever day dreaming about. Her wardrobe is to die for. She is the ultimate denim queen. Wardrobe goals. Enough said.

Massive girl crush for us, we absolutely love her as Gloria's character in Modern Family. As one of us studies Spanish at university, she is the perfect role model for espaƱol flair! We spent way too much of our time stalking her Instagram during THAT wedding… sassy seniorita goals.

diy Christmas / 3

***8 days until Christmas***

What can we say, we absolutely adore this D.I.Y idea for Christmas decorations! It's such a simple and effective way of adding some homemade sparkle to your home! Anyone can get involved and it's a great activity to keep people of all ages entertained this season.

Method:

1. Collect pinecones during Autumn, it's a good idea to pick up a range of sizes as an assortment will look more appealing. Don't worry if the pinecones are closed as they will soon open up.
2. Remember once you have picked the perfect cones you must 'Bake the Bugs out'. You can do this by putting them in the oven (200c for 30/45 minutes) to get rid of any unwanted pinecone guests, and its also a great way of opening up the closed pinecones. Baking the pinecones adds a warming, wintery smell to the house which beats any candle we own.
3. Once cooled, your pinecones are ready to decorate! We chose gold glitter paint to add some festive sparkle, but feel free to decorate however you want, whether it be using a multitude of coloured paint or just a sprinkle of glitter its completely up to you!

(Images: Pinterest)

These pinecones look great scattered along the fireplace, gathered in a bowl on the coffee table or hung on the tree amidst the baubles! We hope you've enjoyed the final post of our D.I.Y Christmas series! We'll be back tomorrow with another blog post as part of our #12daysofchristmas challenge!

diy Christmas / 2

***9 days until Christmas***

Tis the season to be very merry and enjoy a cheeky tipple or two! We've been inspired to infuse cranberries and vodka to create a festive and homemade christmas drink to enjoy this season (and to also compete with our granddad's annual damson vodka.) We believe this cranberry vodka will be a great party offering to family and friends over the Christmas period! CHEERS

Ingredients:

(all divided by 2 to make two 500ml bottles)
1L of Smirnoff Vodka
500g of caster sugar
350g of frozen or fresh cranberries

Method:

1. If frozen, leave the cranberries to thaw, wash them and pierce with a fork.
2. Pour the cranberries into the bottles and add sugar with the use of a funnel. It may look like a lot of sugar but it will dissolve!
3. Measure out the required amount of vodka, pour into the bottles on top of the sugar and cranberry goodness.
4. Remember to shake the bottles everyday in order to aid the infusion of the Cranberry flavour. Shake once a day every day for at least two weeks and the sugar should dissolve and be ready to serve and enjoy. (It's worth taking note, the taste get's better the longer you leave the mixture to infuse so leave it for as long as possible.)
5. Before serving, you must drain out the liquid from the bottle (this can be done through a pair of tights) in order to separate the vodka from the leftover mixture.
6. Once all liquid is gathered, present your creation in any way you want to, feel free to add decoration and labels to your bottles to make them as aesthetically pleasing as they are delicious!

diY Christmas

***10 days until Christmas***

We're very excited to share with you the first in our DIY Christmas three part series of blog posts! scrolling through Pinterest and searching for Christmas inspiration we decided our first festive bakes would be these Rudolph the red nose reindeer cupcakes! These beauties are sure to become a new and delicious christmas tradition, and complete with curly wurly antlers, what's not to love?!

Ingredients:

175g Self Raising Flour
175g Caster Sugar
2 Large Eggs
175g Softened butter
1 Tsp Baking Powder
Milk Chocolate Chips (as many as you want)
2 Milk chocolate bars
3 Curly Wurly bars
Smarties (pick out the red ones, eat the rest ;)

Method:

1. Preheat the oven - 200c
2. Begin by adding the sugar and butter together in a bowl and mix away until you're left with a soft and creamy texture.
3. Crack and beat the eggs into the buttery mixture
4. Sieve the flour into the bowl and fold the flour into the mixture
5. Add in a Tsp of Baking powder to help the cakes rise to their full potential and continue by adding the baking friendly chocolate chips and mix well. (We chose to add milk chocolate, but feel free to replace these with dried cranberries if you're feeling fruity)
6. Ensure that all the ingredients are mixed well and then you are ready to pour the mix into the cupcake cases.
7. Place baking tray in the oven (baking time 10-12 minutes)
8. Ensure the cakes are fully baked with the skewer test, remove from the oven and leave to cool for at least 15 minutes before decorating.
9. TIME TO DECORATE. This is the time to get creative with your little Rudolph masterpieces! We decided to melt milk chocolate and spread this over the top for a delicious base followed by a little red smartie for the nose and chopped curly wurly's for the antlers.

Feel free to improvise with this recipe, a chocolate sponge with cream and a cherry on top would be equally as delicious and most importantly very Rudolph like! Good luck with baking all your Christmas treats this festive season! We hope this puts you in a festive spirit in the most chocolatey way!

Christmas in London

***11 days until Christmas***

The colourful madness of Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park

"The best light decorations in London" did not disappoint!

Cake goals at Harrods!

Mulled wine with a view!

The flying visit to London started at 5am from Cardiff bus station, ridiculously early but we arrived in time for the shops to open! Our first stop was Harrods, ignoring the fact that we're students that cannot afford the majority of the store, we settled with buying a delicious salted caramel brownie (which as you can imagine - it was divine) On our way to Harrods we strolled past the rows of beautiful, white houses in knightsbridge, which always make us feel like we could bump into Mark Francis and the rest of the M.I.C gang at any moment... It has to be said, these streets rival the likes of the dreamy rues de la Paris!

After the brownie was demolished (and the sadness of finishing the chocolatey piece of heaven had gone) we made our way over to Hyde Park, which is somewhere we had never been before but felt like it needed to be ticked off the London tourist bucket list! We visited the magical spectacle that is Winter Wonderland which was so, so, so Christmassy!       (highly recommend a visit if you're in the festive mood.)

Once we felt we had consumed enough christmassy'ness, we decided to be stereotypical London tourists, so with camera's in hand we strutted down the mall to see the Queen, hoping to share a mulled wine and a cheeky mince pie with her majesty! In reality we stood outside the gates doing our very best to look as cool as Mary Kate and Ashley in the noughties classic winning London (of course).

It's safe to say a lot of walking and mileage was covered on this day out - 9 hours to be exact! During this marathon of a day we popped to Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, China Town, Regent Street, Carnaby Street and the Embankment! A tiring day, but completely worth it! Christmas in London certainly gives you the festive feels!
